BALLYMENA CHAMBER GOLF DAY 2014

BALLYMENA CHAMBER GOLF DAY 2014

The third annual Ballymena Borough Chamber of Commerce and Industry Golf Day, sponsored by the Adair Arms Hotel proved to be another tremendous success.  Over 60 golfers (of varying degrees of ability!) took part in the four-ball competition at Galgorm Castle Golf Club on Friday 9th May.

It was a colourful sight to say the least with each golfer donning a pink item of clothing in keeping with the theme of the Giro d’Italia, which was scheduled to pass through the town.

Chamber President Alan Stewart commented “We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our sponsors and the staff at Galgorm Castle Golf Club for contributing to the success of the afternoon. The Chamber Golf Day is getting bigger each year, thanks to the commitment of our members who came out once again to support the competition. Congratulations to all of the winners of the various prizes, please look out for information on the 2015 Chamber Golf Day later this year”.

Great craic all round with our 4 Ball (below) some great golf played, some awful golf played – usual day out I’d say….until next year

Increase Planning Fees - Northern Ireland

Increase Planning Fees – New Planning Application Fees are due to come into operation on Wednesday 28th May 2014

The Department recently made the Planning (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 (S.R. 2014 No. 127) which amend the Planning (Fees) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 (S.R. 2005 No. 222 as amended by S.R. 2005 No. 505, S.R. 2009 No. 256, S.R. 2010 No. 294, S.R. 2011 No. 99, S.R. 2011 No. 99, S.R. 2011 No. 398 and S.R. 2012 No.293).

The purpose of the Regulations is to introduce an inflationary uplift of 1.3% across all fee categories in line with the Department’s cost recovery policy and also to promote a simpler, more balanced and more equitable planning fees regime and amend fee structures and maxima for a number of existing development categories.

The new Regulations, setting out details of the revised fees, can be viewed via the following link:

Alternatively you may wish to refer to the notes for applicants which can be viewed via the following link:

Mara Project Northern Ireland

Mara Project – maximising access in rural areas in Northern Ireland

Mara Project Northern Ireland

The MARA project

MARA project Northern Ireland,  aims to improve the health and well-being of people living in rural areas throughout Northern Ireland, where the hidden nature of poverty and isolation can make it difficult to connect with the most vulnerable members of our community.

Under the project, people can benefit from a household visit whereby they will be given useful information on services, grants and benefits which may be of assistance to them.

The project is funded by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and led by the Public Health Agency for the four year period April 2011 – March 2015.

It is important that people in rural areas are made aware of the support that is available through MARA, and I hope you can help us spread the word.

How MARA PROJECT works

The programme aims to increase access to benefits, grants and services which are known to improve health and wellbeing. To reach out to the most vulnerable rural households, a personal, supportive and empathetic approach is required. That is where MARA makes a difference.

By placing community networks at the heart of the MARA project and using local knowledge, it is easier to identify and connect with people who could benefit from a household visit.

There are no eligibility criteria for a MARA household visit. However, typically householders that would benefit from a visit include older people, carers, disabled people, lone parents, ethnic minorities, lone adults, farming families and low income families.

People are given information on useful support and services, such as rural community transport, SmartPass, warm homes/energy savings homes scheme, occupational therapy assessments for disabled facilities grants, home safety checks, and benefits entitlement checks.

This support can make a real difference to people’s lives in rural areas.

How you can help

So that we can help make people aware of the support that is available through MARA, I would be

grateful if you could share this information with organisations and groups in your area, as well as staff

in your organisation.

This will help us to ensure that the project continues to meet the needs of the most disadvantaged

groups in our community.

NEW OFFICE AT RACEVIEW MILL BROUGHSHANE, BALLYMENA

The new studio will be on the first floor of the old Patton Office at the Mill – plenty of natural light with exposed stone walls & timber beams.

We’re hoping to be in for the start of June so there’s a fair bit of work needing done between now & then!!.

a big thank you to everyone who’s encouraged &supported Joe & Myself (Steven) so far!!!

a few pics of our new office (still work needed!!)
